Mushroom Oasis

Mushroom Oasis is a psychological horror visual novel about a protagonist searching for their missing indoor cat. Believing the pet has escaped into the nearby woods, the player follows the trail deeper into the forest than expected. There, they meet Mychael, an unusual stranger who appears friendly and offers help. What begins as a search for a lost animal gradually becomes a story about trust, isolation, memory, and whether Mychael’s intentions are as harmless as they first appear.

Lost in the Forest

The story unfolds over several in-game days rather than traditional levels. Each day continues the protagonist’s stay around Mychael and reveals more information about the forest, the missing cat, and the person who found them. The player spends much of the game talking with Mychael and observing changes in his behavior. Small details in conversations can become important later, especially when the protagonist begins questioning what they remember and why leaving the area is becoming increasingly difficult.

Choices Can Lead Somewhere Dangerous

Gameplay follows a visual novel structure, with most interaction based on reading dialogue and selecting responses. During the available story, players can:

·         talk with Mychael and other characters;

·         choose responses during conversations;

·         investigate what happened to the missing cat;

·         notice changes in memories and emotions;

·         make decisions that alter later scenes;

·         reach four bad endings;

·         continue through the neutral story route.

The game does not include combat, free exploration, equipment systems, or traditional character upgrades. Progress depends on continuing conversations and making decisions when choices appear.

Understanding Mychael

Mychael becomes the central character as the protagonist spends more time in the forest. He can behave politely and provide food, shelter, and company, but the story gradually introduces signs of manipulation and possessiveness. Themes involving kidnapping, memory manipulation, animal harm, needles, death, and murder can appear depending on the route, particularly in bad endings.

The available story covers Days 1 through 3 and can lead to several different outcomes based on the player’s decisions. Mushroom Oasis is mainly about following the developing relationship between the protagonist and Mychael while trying to understand what is happening in the forest. The player advances dialogue, chooses responses, and looks for inconsistencies that may reveal why returning home is not as simple as finding the path back.
