Saya no Uta
Saya no Uta is a psychological horror visual novel about Fuminori Sakisaka, a medical student who survives a car accident that kills his parents. After brain surgery, his perception of reality changes completely. Ordinary people appear as grotesque masses of flesh, familiar places resemble organic nightmares, and normal food becomes unbearable. While struggling to live in this distorted world, Fuminori meets Saya, the only person who appears normal and beautiful to him. Their relationship quickly becomes the center of the story.
Seeing a Different World
Most of the story is experienced from Fuminori's perspective, so the player frequently sees ordinary locations as he perceives them rather than as they really are. His friends Koji, Yoh, and Omi notice that his personality has changed and become concerned about him. Meanwhile, Fuminori becomes increasingly isolated and dependent on Saya. Saya also searches for Professor Ogai, the scientist she considers her father, giving the pair another reason to investigate events connected to her mysterious origin.
Decisions With Permanent Consequences
Gameplay follows a traditional visual novel structure. There is no combat, free exploration, or inventory management. Players mainly read dialogue and make a small number of important choices that can completely change the final part of the story. The experience includes:
· conversations between Fuminori and Saya;
· scenes involving Koji, Yoh, Omi, and Dr. Ryoko;
· disturbing changes in Fuminori's perception;
· investigation into Professor Ogai;
· major decisions affecting later events;
· three different endings;
· psychological horror and graphic imagery.
The limited number of choices makes each one especially important because a single decision can send the story toward a completely different conclusion.
As Koji and Dr. Ryoko investigate Fuminori's behavior, they discover information connecting Saya to Ogai's research. The story gradually shifts between Fuminori's distorted viewpoint and characters who can see the world normally, revealing how differently the same events appear depending on perspective. The truth about Saya also changes how earlier scenes can be understood.
Choosing How the Nightmare Ends
Saya no Uta has three main conclusions determined by key decisions. One route involves Fuminori having his normal perception restored, while the other branches continue his relationship with Saya and lead to very different outcomes for the remaining characters and the wider world. Replaying the game and choosing another path reveals alternative scenes and consequences. The main experience centers on perception, isolation, obsession, horror, and the increasingly destructive relationship between Fuminori and Saya.
