Cry of Fear

Cry of Fear is a first-person psychological horror game about Simon Henriksson, a young man who wakes in a dark alley after a car accident and tries to find his way home through an almost deserted Swedish city. The streets are filled with distorted creatures, locked routes, strange messages, and locations that seem to change without explanation. As Simon continues through apartments, sewers, subway tunnels, forests, and an asylum, the story gradually connects these events to his memories, trauma, and perception of reality.

Moving Through the Nightmare

Exploration is divided into chapters and connected areas rather than a single open map. Simon frequently needs keys, access cards, fuses, and other objects to open new routes. Dark rooms make the phone flashlight or another light source important, while limited inventory space forces the player to decide which weapons, healing items, and useful objects are worth carrying. Some weapons can also be used together with a light source through the dual-wield system.

Fighting and Managing Supplies

Combat takes place at close range and from a distance, with enemies appearing in corridors, streets, buildings, and outdoor areas. Players need to:

·         search rooms for ammunition and healing items;

·         use melee weapons and firearms;

·         manage a limited inventory;

·         solve environmental puzzles;

·         explore for keys and important objects;

·         survive boss encounters;

·         make several decisions that affect the ending.

Ammunition can become limited, so avoiding unnecessary shots and choosing the right weapon for each situation can make later encounters easier.

Simon eventually meets people connected to his real life, including Sophie and Doctor Purnell. Certain moments allow the player to make decisions involving characters such as Carcass and the Doctor. These choices are important because they determine which conclusion becomes available. The story ultimately reveals that much of the nightmare reflects the book Simon was asked to write as part of his treatment after the accident, with the creatures and locations representing parts of his emotional state and experiences.

Different Endings to Simon's Story

Cry of Fear has multiple endings based on choices made during the campaign, so completing the game once does not reveal every possible outcome. There are also unlockable items and a separate co-op campaign for up to four players. The main single-player experience focuses on searching for a way home, surviving increasingly disturbing environments, solving puzzles, conserving supplies, and gradually discovering what the nightmare means for Simon.
